The 2016 La Serre is plump and juicy, with plenty of immediacy that will make it nearly impossible to resist young. Succulent black cherry, plum, new leather, tobacco, spice and new oak all give the 2016 soft contours. Medium in body and yet quite fleshy, the 2016 is impeccable. La Serre could be a bit less monolithic, but it is undoubtedly quite tasty.

Robert Parker The Wine Advocate – Score 90/100
The 2016 La Serre is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. It has a medium garnet-purple color and reveals a vibrant nose of red cherries, blueberry pie and fresh plums with nuances of pencil lead, wild sage and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, refreshing and wonderfully juicy in the mouth, it has a lovely soft texture and a pleasant herbal lift on the finish.

Robert Parker The Wine Advocate – Score 88/100
The 2016 De Sales is medium garnet-purple colored and has a savory nose of red and black berries, plums and earth plus a waft of smoked meats. Medium-bodied, the palate is chewy with an earthy character and restrained finish.

Vinous – Antonio Galloni – Score 97/100
The 2016 La Fleur-Pétrus soars out of the glass with striking aromatics. Light on its feet yet also quite fleshy, the 2016 has so much to offer. Blood orange and floral notes add brightness to the red-toned fruit in this silky, beautifully nuanced Pomerol. The 2016 is rich, dense and spectacularly beautiful, with a persistent, saline-drenched finish that makes it hard to resist a second taste.

Robert Parker The Wine Advocate – Score 97/100
Blended of 91% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc, the medium garnet-purple colored 2016 la Fleur-Petrus reveals stunning Black Forest cake, redcurrant jelly and wilted roses scents with underlying suggestions of pencil shavings, yeast extract, dark chocolate and cloves. Medium to full-bodied, the mid-palate possesses superb intensity and depth with layers of perfumed black fruits and loads of red fruit sparks framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing on a lingering earthy note.

Vinous – Antonio Galloni – Score 92/100
The 2016 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is just as captivating from bottle as it was from barrel. Fresh, silky and inviting, the Chapelle is all class. Floral notes lead into a core of expressive red cherry and plum fruit. Medium in body, silky and exquisite in its balance, the 2016 has so much to recommend it. I would prefer to give the wine a few years in bottle to allow a broader range of aromas and flavors to develop, but even today, the Chapelle is gorgeous. The 21% Cabernet Franc in the blend adds striking brightness and perfume throughout.

Robert Parker The Wine Advocate – Score 94/100
The 2016 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is blended of 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36.5% Merlot and 21.5% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it absolutely sings of red roses, black tea and tilled black soil with a core of crushed blackberries, Morello cherries and cassis plus a hint of cinnamon stick. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers a great intensity of ripe black berries and floral layers, framed by soft, silken tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral laced.

The 2016 Chevalier de Lascombes is a very pretty second wine that very much captures the essence of the house style. Deep, plush and fleshy, the 2016 has a lot to offer. Bold fruit and sweet oak add to the wine’s racy personality. The 2016 has come together nicely during aging. I would prefer to drink it now and over the next few years.

Vinous – Antonio Galloni – Score 90/100
The 2016 Poujeaux has turned out beautifully. Ripe, generous and deeply layered, the 2016 has so much to offer. A varietal Cabernet Sauvignon note give the dark red/purplish berry fruit an attractive floral/savory upper register that adds striking nuance as well as character. This is a superb vintage for Poujeaux.

Another sleeper from Saint-Estèphe, the 2016 Phélan Ségur is super impressive. An enticing bouquet laced with crushed rocks, graphite, iron, smoke, lavender, mint and inky blue/purplish fruit makes a strong opening statement. A wine of power, resonance and gravitas, the 2016 Phélan is remarkably expressive and also full of potential.

Robert Parker The Wine Advocate – Score 92/100
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Phélan Ségur gives elegant red and black currants, kirsch and black berries with violets and chocolate box scents plus a waft of cigars. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant, fine grained and fresh with great vibrancy and mineral notes on the finish.

Vinous – Antonio Galloni – Score 93/100
A gorgeous second wine, the 2016 La Dame de Montrose is incredibly expressive today. Supple, radiant and inviting, La Dame has all the potential to be an overachiever in this vintage. Today, it is quite open, and, even more importantly, flat-out delicious. In some moments, La Dame is rather nuanced, while at other times it is a bit more potent. It will be interesting to see what aging in bottle brings, but one thing is certain; the 2016 La Dame is a stellar wine. Don’t miss it.

The Wine Advocate Robert Parker – Score 91/100
The 2016 La Dame de Montrose is deep garnet-purple colored and gives up cassis, earth, tilled soil, truffles and chocolate-covered cherries on the nose. Medium-bodied, the palate is firm, elegant and restrained with a mineral finish.

Vinous – Antonio Galloni – Score 92/100
The 2016 La Tour Carnet is fabulous. Rich, dense and voluptuous in the glass, the 2016 exudes intensity in every dimension. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, menthol, licorice, pomegranate and spice give the 2016 a decidedly exotic character that is hugely appealing.

Robert Parker The Wine Advocate – Score 91/100
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 la Tour Carnet has an earthy nose with tobacco and underbrush over a core of warm plums, kirsch and tea. The medium-bodied palate is refreshing, elegant, juicy and soft with a savory finish.

Vinous – Neil Martin – score 91/100
The 2016 Beaumont has quite a powerful bouquet with dense black fruit, boysenberry and cedar, traces of pencil lead developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite spicy compared to its peers, then it reins everything back in for what is a refined finish. Classy stuff, but I would afford this a couple of years in bottle.

Robert Parker The Wine Advocate – Score 93/100
The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is showing well from bottle, unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, rose petals, cassis and spices, subtly framed by new wood. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad and nicely concentrated, its chassis of velvety tannin largely cloaked in juicy fruit, concluding with a nicely delineated finish. It’s comparatively elegant in style. The 2016 is derived almost exclusively from Grivot’s holdings at the bottom of the vineyard as his higher-lying plots were ravished by frost.

Vinous – Clos de Vougeot 2016  Grivot – Score 90-93/100
Bright, dark red-ruby. Pure but muted aromas of medicinal black cherry and licorice. In a distinctly virile style and hard to taste today following the sensational range of Vosne premier crus, as this youthfully imploded wine shows more pronounced herb, menthol and earth elements and little early sweetness. A forceful if less sophisticated wine but its tannins are still rather smooth (Grivot described it as “un grand garçon maladroit”).

60% Colombard en 40% Muscats Petits Grains. 5,5% alcohol.

The Wine Advocate – Neil Martin 89-91 The Château Poujeaux 2014 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 35% Merlot. It offers blackberry and briary scents on the nose, a little disjointed at first but the aromas coalesce with time. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin. There is satisfying fruit concentration here, finely-tuned acidity and a really quite sophisticated, elegant finish. Classically lined Poujeaux that should settle at the upper end of my banded score.

Vinous – Antonio Galloni 90 The 2014 Poujeaux is an absolutely joyous wine. Plump, juicy and flavorful, it possesses striking depth. Dark stone fruit, spice, leather and tobacco give the wine an attractive savory profile. The 2014 could use a bit of time in bottle to settle down, but it is very nicely done.
